Trojan takes interbreed championship at Great Yorkshire Show
Adding to a wonderful show season for the Pode Hole team and collecting yet another interbreed championship was our six year old stock bull Trojan of Craigeassie. Bought as a yearling bull in Perth for 6000gns, Trojan is by Belmore Fuel Injected and out of Kathleen of Craigeassie. This win adds to his interbreed honours collected earlier in the season at East of England Show and the Royal Highland Show.
In the rest of the classes we took a first with our two year old heifer Pode Hole Madeline Choice, who is a daughter of Trojan, while we also stood third in the yearling heifer class with Pode Hole Phantasy Dream, who is again by Trojan. In the group of three class we stood third and then we took a second place in the pairs class.

July 2011- Pode Hole Dominator sells to Dumfries House
We are pleased to announce the private sale of our yearling show bull Pode Hole Dominator to Morrisons Farm at Dumfries House, Scotland, for an undisclosed price.
Dominator is by Pode Hole Yeti, a Loch Awe Lucky Jim son who is now owned by Mark Holmes, and is out of the Nevada Warrior daughter Pode Hole Joyful Yodel. We wish Dumfries House all the best with Dominator and look forward to hearing about his progeny in due course.

June 2011 - Pode Hole interbreed success at the Royal Highland Show
Taking his second interbreed championship in as many weeks, our senior bull Trojan of Craigeassie, took the breed championship at this year’s Royal Highland Show and also went on to win the overall interbreed championship as well as form part of the winning breed group of three and reserve native group of three.
Trojan was praised by interbreed judge and Charolais breeder John White, Midlock, for being a magnificent example of the breed and a tremendous beef animal all through.
Of the rest of the team, we won the class for heifers born in 2009 with Pode Hole Madeline Choice, who is by Trojan out of Wenmar Madeline. In the cow and calf class we stood second with Pode Hole Phantasy Astrid, a Nevada Warrior daughter out of Tugby Phantasy 2nd and in the yearling bull class we also stood first with Pode Hole Dominator, a son of Pode Hole Yeti out of Pode Hole joyful Yodel. Our winning group of three consisted of Trojan, Phantasy Astrid and Madeline Choice.

June 2011- Pode Hole take interbreed championship at East of England
It was a fantastic East of England Show for us this year as we took the championship in the Beef Shorthorn classes, which also happened to be the national show for the breed, and then went on to be interbreed native and interbreed supreme champion. Our winner was our six year old bull Trojan of Craigeassie. Bought from Lady Glendyne in Perth for 6000gns as a yearling bull, he is by Belmore Fuel Injected and is out of Kathleen of Craigeassie. Interbreed judge and Limousin breeder William Smith described Trojan as “a fantastic example of the breed showing great size, power and locomotion. For his age he really was an easy winner.”
In the junior bull classes we took a first and the junior male championship with the April 2010-born Pode Hole Dominator. This one is by Pode Hole Yeti out of Pode Hole Joyful Yodel and was also given the reserve best bull bred by exhibitor. In the cow and calf class we took a first prize with Pode Hole Phantasy Astrid who is a Nevada Warrior out of one of the herd’s foundation cows Tugby Phantasy 2nd. She was also placed best shorthorn bred by exhibitor.
Of the heifers in the team we took second place with Pode hole Madeline Choice, a Trojan daughter out of another of the herd’s foundation females, Wenmar Madeline. She also stood second in the pedigree native heifer class. Pode Hole Phantasy Dream, another Trojan daughter stood third and third in the pedigree native heifer class and Pode Hole Tessa delightful, yet another Trojan daughter stood fourth, but won her class in the pedigree native heifer class. Pode Hole Gypsy Diamond, a Trojan daughter out of Pode Hole Snowqueen also won her class and stood fifth in the pedigree native heifer class.
We also won the best pair of Shorthorns and also the best group of three award and on the last day of the show, we teamed up with LEP Farms and Gordon Brooke’s to win the interbreed beef quartet competition, judged jointly by Jack Ramsay and Andy Ryder.

February 2011 - Pode Hole Yeti sells to Holmere herd
Our senior stock bull Pode Hole Yeti has sold in a private sale to Mark Holmes’ Holmere herd. Yeti is an all white son of Loch Awe Lucky Jim out of Wenmar Grace beauty N23. He stood interbreed champion at Surrey County Show in 2007 as a two year old bull and has been used across the herd to sharpen the roan colour of the females. We wish Mark all the best with him.

February 2011 - Chapelton Clansman joins Pode Hole sire line up
Not only did the two bulls we had forward at the Stirling Bull Sales in February sell well, we also purchased a new stock sire in the form of Chapelton Clansman, bred by Donald Biggar.
This April 2009-born polled bull is by the Glenisla Rannoch son Cavans Yankee, who sired the winner of the young bull class at the World Conference Show in 2010 and is out of the Chapelton Welcome daughter Chapleton Duchess, which is the same family that produced the February 2010 breed champion and record breed price. Clansman has a milk figure of +10, a TSI of +24 and a SRI of +18.

At the same sale, we sold the March 2009-born Pode Hole Canute, which is by Pode Hole Yeti out of the Nathan of Quoiggs daughter Pode Hole Twilight. He sold at 4500gns to Cnewr Estate, Brecon Powys, while our other entry, Pode Hole commander, a son of Trojan of Craigeassie out of Pode Hole Tamsin sold to Messrs Bernard and Dodds, Ettrick, Selkirk, for 3000gns. E’d like to wish both buyers the very best with their new bulls.

November 2010 - Pode Hole success at East of England Winter Stock Festival
Following on our success from last year’s East of England Winter Stock Festival, the Pode Hole beef Shorthorn team had yet another successful day’s trade under auctioneer Paul Gentry of Newark Livestock Market.
Our sale leader at 3800gns was the pre-sale Shorthorn champion Pode Hole Broadhooks Boogie. This is a Pode Hole Yeti daughter out of Pode Hole Broadhooks Zoe, a Nevada Warrior daughter. She sold to M Wyand, Reepham, Norwich.
Selling at 3200gns was Pode Hole Annie Confetti. This is by Pode Hole Yeti and out of Pode Hole Annie, a Chapelton Everest daughter. She was bought by C Nye, Ely.
And making 2800gns was Pode Hole Rosette Blush, a Yeti daughter out of Fingask Rosette Xanthea, an Uppermill Lifton daughter. This one went home with G Towers, Welford, Northampton.
At 2000gns was Pode Hole Rose Claret, another heifer by Yeti from Pode Hole Scarlet, a Nathan of Quoiggs daughter. This one sold to Mr Nye.
Then at 1800gns was Pode Hole Genoa Caberet, another Yeti daughter out of Pode Hole Serenade, another by Nathan. Taking this one were A and O Ivinson, Penrith.

November 2010 - Pode Hole purchase new herd sire
Chieftain of Upsall - a new bull has arrived at Pode Hole from the Upsall herd of The Hon. Gerald Turton.
This dark red son of Dunsyre North Star is out of Gem W10 of Upsall by Sutherland Bundaberg who is also the dam of Vortrkeer of Upsall (current stock sire in his home herd).
A long clean bull with excellent EBV’s being the in the top 1% for growth, eye muscle and milk whilst also being in the top 15% for calving ease. Overall index in the top 1% for both Terminal Index and Self Replacing. It will be very interesting to see his effect in the Pode Hole herd.

September 2010 - Pode Hole Hampshire Downs sell to 700gns in Carlisle
Trade for Hampshire Down females was brisk in Carlisle at the end of September. Pode Hole shearling ewes topped at 700gns for one out of a dam by Owlesbury Xeres. She sold to Mrs Maud Blanchard, Avonbridge.
Our next, one this time by Owlesbury Xeres, sold for 520gns to David and Denise Middleditch, Sudbury. We would like to wish both buyers the best of luck with their purchases.
July 2010 - Pode Hole Madeline Zeta returns to winning ways
This year’s Great Yorkshire Show has been a great success for the Pode Hole Beef Shorthorn and Simmental team. The highlight of the show for us was winning the cow class with our March 2006-born cow Pode Hole Madeline Zeta, by Chapelton Promoter. We had a great run of championship prizes with Zeta last year and it’s great to have her back on winning form. She then went on to take the overall breed championship under judge Andrew barrett, Norfolk.

We also won the two year old heifer class with Pode Hole Irene Bloom, a March 2008-born daughter of our homebred stock bull Pode Hole Yeti. In the yearling heifer class we stood second with Pode Hole Tessa Charm, a February 2009-born daughter of Trojan of Craigeassie. Topping the day off well for the Shorthorn team, we then went on to win the Group of Three.
In the Simmental classes our one exhibit, our junior bull Pode Hole Aztec, a March 2009-born son of Tilbrook Vanguard, won his class and then went on to stand reserve male champion under judge Roger Birch.
On the second day of judging we were pleased to be tapped out as reserve native champion with Madeline under judge David Leggat. She also took the interbreed native pairs competition alongside the male champion from the Shorthorn classes.

June 2010 - Strong Beef Shorthorn classes at the Royal Highland Show
This year’s Royal Highland Show saw the Beef Shorthorn World Conference come to town with delegates from all over the world watching the judging. Classes were strong, particularly in the female classes. Our show cow Pode Hole Madeline Zeta stood second in a very strong cow and calf class and then paired up with Mr Riby’s champion bull to stand reserve interbreed pairs winners on the last day of the show.
Also taking a second in a strong two year old heifer class was Pode Hole Irene Bloom, a March 2008-born daughter of Pode Hole yeti out of Derryage Misty Irene. The conference was a great success and it was a pleasure to be part of such a wonderful display of beef Shorthorn genetics. We look forward to hosting a farm walk for the delegates soon.
June 2010 - Pode Hole on winning form at East of England Show
The East of England Show was yet another great success for the Pode Hole show team, with our relatively young Shorthorn team faring well and a Hampshire Down ewe lamb taking the reserve native interbreed championship.
The success in the shorthorn classes was led by our show cow Pode Hole Madeline Zeta, who won her cow and calf class and then went on to take the female championship and overall reserve championship for the breed. In the bull classes, we won the junior bull class with Pode Hole Commander, by Trojan of Craigeassie out of Pode Hole Tamsin. He then went on to be junior male champion and reserve male champion.

In the yearling heifer class we stood first, second and third, with the top of the class going to Pode Hole Tessa Charm, again by Trojan, who then went on to be junior heifer champion. Second went to Pode Hole Madeline Choice, while Pode Hole Gypsy Cream stood third. In the Simmental classes we won the yearling bull class with Pode Hole Aztec, by Tilbrook Vanguard, he then went on to be placed junior male champion and reserve interbreed Continental male champion.

In the interbreed classes for the Shorthorns, we stood interbreed junior reserve native heifer champion with Pode Hole Tessa Charm, while Pode Hole Commander took reserve spot in the native junior male interbreed. On the final day of judging we were part of the winning group of four of all breeds.

The Hampshire Down classes had incredibly strong classes and we were delighted to take the breed championship with our ewe lamb by our stock tup Yarcombe Hussar. We also stood second in the ewe lamb class, fourth in a very strong shearling ewe class and won the best pair of ewe lamb class. The winning ewe lamb then went on to be placed reserve native interbreed champion.

May 2010 - “Pode Hole tops female trade at Hampshire Down Stratford sale
The first major sale of the year for the Hampshire Downs saw the Pode Hole offering sell well in both the tup lamb and ewe lamb sections. The first to sell well for us was a tup lamb by our new stock sire Yarcombe Hussar, who was sale leader at last year’s Stratford sale. This lamb has an index of 288 and is out of a homebred ewe. He sold to David Smith and Jennifer Atkinson for their Kelsey flock at Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, for £1180, the second highest priced lamb of the sale. Next came another lamb by Hussar, this time with an index of 294. He sold for £560 to Paul and Tracey Rae, Wadebridge, Cornwall.
Having taken the female championship under judge Kevin McCarthy, we were then delighted to top the female offering with a ewe lamb by Owlesbury Xeres out of a homebred ewe by Pode Hole victor. This one sold for £560 to Andrew and caroline Ivinson, Penrith. Our other ewe lamb, this time by Yarcombe Hussar sold to David and Denise Middledith, Sudbury for £420.

May 2010 - Reserve interbreed success for Pode Hole shorthorns at Surrey County Show
Our first show of the season saw us take the Beef Shorthorn championship under judge Brenda Weir with Pode Hole Bloom, an in-calf two year old heifer born March 2008 by Pode Hole Yeti. She is out of one of the herd’s foundation cows Derryage Misty Irene and is due to calve to Trojan of Craigeassie in September. She later went on to take the reserve interbreed championship.
Bloom then teamed up with our senior cow Pode Hole Madeline Zeta and young bull Pode Hole Commander to take the reserve interbreed group of three championship.

April 2010 - “Pode Hole to host World Conference herd walk”
This year sees the arrival of some 80 Beef Shorthorn breeders from around the world head to the UK for the world Conference.
We are delighted to be one of the host farms on July 2nd where we will hold a herd walk, but also a novel International judging event, where different classes of Pode Hole stock will be on view for breeders for different countries to discuss the merits of our cattle in line with the requirements of their country. It is hoped this will prove an educational tool for all breeders.
February 2010 - “Beef shorthorn heifers sell to Norfolk and East Sussex”
Following the success we had at the East of England Winter Stock festival in November last year, we have sold heifers to one of the purchasers from the event, Mrs Wyand, Norfolk, and also to new breeders Mr and Mrs Murphy from Lewes, East Sussex. We would like to wish both breeders the very best of success with their heifers.
February 2010 - “Pode Hole celebrate best ever Perth Bull Sales”
We took two Beef shorthorn bulls and a heifer to the February Perth Bull sales in Stirling and had one of the best sales yet.
Having won his class as well as securing the junior championship, Pode Hole Beefeater, an April 2008-born son of our senior stock bull Trojan of Craigeassie out of Wenmar Madeline N15, the same dam as our great show cow Pode Hole Madeline Zeta, went on to lead trade for the breed at 14,000gns, just 500gns shy of the breed record! He sold to Jack Ramsay and Martin Moore in a two way split. We would like to congratulate Jack and Martin for getting Beefeater in to an AI station for world wide semen distribution, we wish you the very best of success with him .

Our second bull at the sale, Pode Hole Bugle, again by Trojan and this time out of Pode hole Serenade, who is a daughter of Nathan of Quoiggs, later sold for 7000gns to regular Pode Hole bull purchaser Campbell Graham.

In the female section we sold Pode Hole Hermione Bella, a February 2008 born daughter of Trojan, out of one of our foundation females Derryage Pleasant Hermione. She sold at 3000gns to Mr and Mrs Ivinson, Penrith, Cumbria.

December 2009 - “Pode Hole Wellington sells privately off the back of success at East of England Show”
Having taken the male Simmental championship at the East of England Show back in the summer under judge Adrian Ivory, Pode Hole Wellington, a January 2008 son of Popes Laird out of Corskie Spice has sold in a private deal to Robert and Kay Vincent, Carmarthenshire, for their Collins herd
November 2009 - “Pode Hole lead trade at East of England Winter Stock Festival”
Having taken the breed championship at this year’s East of England Winter Stock Festival, our March 2001 cow with calf at foot Pode Hole Society Girl S014, later topped trade at 3000gns. By Derryage Navajoh out of Derryage Misty Irene sold with her March-born heifer calf at foot to Norwich-based Monica Wyand.

Another bid of the same money secured another from the April 2008-born Pode Hole Phantasy Brocode. By Trojan of Craigeassie out of Podehole Phantasy, she also went with Mrs Wyand.
We also took the reserve championship with the September 2007-born two year old heifer Podehole Tessa Anastasia, by Nevada Warrior out of Podehole Tessa Yokel. She sold for 2400gns to Chris Nye, Ely, Cambridgeshire.
Summer 2009 - “Pode Hole celebrate best ever show season with a Beef Shorthorn championship at the Highland”
It’s been a phenomenal show season for us this year, but our highlight quite simply has to be taking the breed championship at this year’s Royal Highland Show with Pode Hole Madeline Zeta. This March 2006 young cow by Chapelton Promoter out of one of our foundation females Wenmar Madeline N15, has been on great form this summer and has notched up the following wins for us:
