Pode Hole Simmental

In 2006 we decided to introduce a second breed to Pode Hole. The Simmentals were chosen to compliment the Shorthorns. We still wanted to have a breed of cattle that were easy to handle and made good milky suckler cows.

Drawing on Roy McDonald’s previous experience with the breed purchases were made at the Darsham dispersal sale of specific female lines together with some embryos and a further heifer has been added from the Greenfields, Starline, Woodhall, Corskie herds.The Simmentals are also be tested under the SAC scheme and ABRI recorded.

Greenfields Solomon is our stock bull. He had a promising start in the show ring and his young stock are now coming through.

We attended a few shows with the Simmentals in 2006 and had reasonable success whilst getting to know the other breeders and exhibitors – not that Roy needed any introduction.

The Royal Show 2007 was a highlight taking four animals who all won their classes.
