Drawing on Roy McDonald’s previous experience with the breed purchases were made at the Darsham dispersal sale of specific female lines together with some embryos and a further heifer has been added from the Greenfields herd during the summer.  It is our intention to add a few more young heifers to the herd to complete our foundation base before breeding up our numbers.  In time we would like to see a balance of between 30-40 breeding cows each of Simmentals and Shorthorns. The Simmentals will also be tested under the SAC scheme and ABRI recorded.

A half share in the promising young bull Greenfields Solomon has also been purchased and he will be used to cover the heifers this autumn.

We attended a few shows with the Simmentals in 2006 and had reasonable success whilst getting to know the other breeders and exhibitors – not that Roy needed any introduction.
