The Hampshire Down flock established in 1992 with females purchased from the Orlingbury and Melkett flocks. The early tups used were Shapwick Formidable Harry and Shapwick Formidable Jester. The flock is now closed - with the exception of new stock tups – and currently numbers 60 ewes.

The flock lambs in December and is Scrapie monitored, performance recorded and Bluetongue vaccinated. We regularly exhibit at various shows in the UK, including Rutland, East of England and the Royal Highland and often have sheep for sale at Society Sales in Stratford, Skipton and Carlisle.

Past sales have seen us top female trade at Skipton selling ewes to £672 and we celebrated our best showing year in 1997 at the Royal Show,  winning the overall and reserve breed championship, breed group and interbreed championship with a pair of homebred ewe lambs.

Xerxes was purchased from the Stratford sale in 2007 for the top price of the day £800. He is genotyped RR and his sire is Parkstock Royal and his dam is Owlesbury 56R02400 by Owlesbury Rapier. He has an SRS score of 169. We have been pleased with his offspring as he has left us with good correct sheep with plenty of Hampshire character.

Headliner was purchased from the Stratford sale in 2009 for the top price of £1200. By Parkstock Pride he is out of the Owlesbury Stirling daughter 43W06202. He is genotyped RR and was purchased for his great muscling and growth EBVs which were backed by good actual scores of 42.7mm for muscle and a scan weight of 63.1kg at 127 days. His SRS score is 168 and he has grown in to an impressive strong shearling.

Hussar was purchased at Stratford in 2009 as well. He is by Yarcombe Surprise which goes back to Bilberry Oak Supreme (NZ). His dam Yarcombe 30N04036 is a daughter of Owlesbury Progress. Again, he was purchased for good muscling and growth EBVs matched by good actuall figures. His muscle was 34.5 and weighed 57kg at 117 days. His SRS score is 297 (Top 1% for breed).

Pode Hole General is by Owlesbury Xerxes and out of a homebred ewe by Pode Hole Zachariah. He was shown in 2003 and 2004 with great success. His SRS score is 171.

Pode Hole Flyer is by Pode Hole Cavalier and is out of a homebred ewe by Pode Hole Victor.  His SRS score is 219 (Top 10% for breed)
